Group pitch evaluation

We were told to present our short film pitch to the class so that we could gain some feedback. It also gave us the chance to ask for ideas or anything that we could add to our short film to make it more appealing. During this session, we were asked to clarify certain aspects of how the film worked, for example, we were asked if the stereotypes would offend any of the audience. We answered this by saying that that was part of the concept of the film, in the sense that we are showing the audience that you shouldn’t ‘judge a book by its cover’ as our characters will show who they really are towards the end. This will also teach a moral to the audience.  We were given good feedback and was told that the story line was good and had some purpose to it. As well as good feedback, we were given constructive criticism, for example, we were told to be careful with how we portray the stereotypes in order to not deeply offend anyone. It was also said that we need to develop how the three characters in our film relate to each other.  We took this feedback on board and after the class discussion, we took time to focus on how to entwine the three characters together and how they would cross paths. Overall, presenting our pitch to the class was beneficial as it helped us to work harder on the film production.

Treatment ideas in production

Stereotypes play a big part in our short film and happen to be one of the main themes. As the film teaches a moral at the end, we decided to use a famous quote to show at the end of the film that would reflect why stereotypes portrayed can be wrong and should not be used as judgement upon others.

We will be deciding which of these quotes we will use

Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and cliches.
Harold Evans

Don't live up to your stereotypes.
Sherman Alexie

Stereotypes, they're sensual, cultural weapons. That's the way that we attack people. At an artistic level, stereotypes are terrible writing.
Junot Diaz

Short film ideas - first set of ideas

Short film ideas

The short film will be a comedy that will be based on stereotypes and revolve around various characters that differ from eachother.

Brief character profiles:

These are ideas and brief personalities. We will not be using all of these characters

The ditsy 'blonde'
This character will be portayed as a clumbsy, ditsy individual,

The  'Freshy'
This person will be from some part of Africa and has come to the UK for the first time. He will have a jolly and enthusiastic personality.

The 'Poshy'
This individual will be portayed as a stuck up, reserved person who has no sense of humour.

The 'Angry one'
This character will lash out and get angry over irrelevant things.

Although these characters seem cliche, there will be a slight twist in the story to make it different.

Group meetings

To keep in touch, my group and I shared email addresses, phone numbers and decided to Skype each other so we could all be up to date and so that we could work on our coursework out of college hours.

Friday, 13 September 2013

After much research, I have decided that I want to do a short film for my coursework. I will be working in a group of three which will come to an advantage as we will all be able to entwine our ideas and concepts together to develop a good short film.
